New upgrade of PV module frame: 6005-T6

· Maysun Solar News

Aluminum alloy has many advantages such as light weight, easy recycling, reusability and high reliability. In the foreseeable future, aluminum alloy will still be the best choice of frame material in the PV field. Maysun Solar insists on quality first and always pays attention to the technological progress of raw materials. Now we have comprehensively upgraded the frame materials and selected 6005-T6 profiles which are rare in the industry.

6 series aluminum profiles are the most common aluminum alloy profiles, all belong to aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy, mainly have three grades of 6061, 6063 and 6005. The different content of alloying elements determines the different performance of the profiles, and the application range is also different. The following are the metal compositions of the three grades:

·6005 magnesium content ranges from 0.4% to 0.6%, silicon content ranges from 0.6% to 0.9%.

·6061 magnesium content is between 0.8%~1.2%, silicon content is between 0.4%~0.8%.

·6063 magnesium content is between 0.45% and 0.9%, silicon content is between 0.2% and 0.6%.

It can be seen that 6005 has the lowest magnesium content and the highest silicon content. Therefore, 6005 has higher tensile strength and yield strength and better fracture toughness than 6061 and 6063, and is suitable for structures with high strength requirements, such as photovoltaic brackets and module frames, etc.

T is the initial letter of Treatment, followed by a number to indicate the type of heat treatment used for aluminum alloy sheet. There are many kinds of aluminum alloy heat treatment methods in the world, from T0 to T10 to T87, and different heat treatment methods are applicable to different usage scenarios.

T5 and T6 are more commonly used in the photovoltaic industry. T6 means that the aluminum sheet is extruded from the extruder and then cooled down instantly with water to achieve a higher hardness (above 13.5 hardness on the Wechsler scale) and a tensile strength of 215 MPa. While T5 is cooled down by air cooling, which usually takes 2-3 days, and made of profile hardness of Wechsler 8-12 hardness, with a tensile strength of 160 MPa.

In a comprehensive assessment, we believe that the hardness, compressive strength, yield strength and ductility of 6005-T6 profile is superior to other profile standards significantly, which is more suitable for severe weather conditions with high snow and wind pressure, and can enhance component reliability as well as extend service life.
