What is solar panel encapsulation? What does it do?

Encapsulation films for solar panels primarily consist of EVA, POE, and PVB (polyvinyl butyral).

Solar Panel encapsulation adhesive film is one of the key materials of the Solar Panel module and is placed between the glass of the Solar Panel module and the solar cell or the back sheet and the solar cell to encapsulate and protect the solar cell.

How many different types of solar panel encapsulation films?

EVA: EVA resin is the main raw material, and it is modified by adding a cross-linking agent, a silane coupling agent, a light stabilizer, an antioxidant, an ultraviolet absorber, and other additives before being formed by melt processing.

It has high light transmittance and a wide process window, and because EVA resin and additives are polar, it has good compatibility and absorption.

POE: POE resin is used as the primary raw material, which is then modified by the addition of a crosslinking agent, a silage coupling agent, a light stabilizer, an antioxidant, an ultraviolet absorber, and other additives before being formed by melt processing.

Although it has excellent water vapor barrier and anti-PID performance, because POE is a non-polar resin, it is prone to additive precipitation.

PVB: PVB resin is the main raw material, and it is modified with plasticizers, silane coupling agents, light stabilizers, antioxidants, ultraviolet absorbers, and other additives before being formed by melt processing. Has a high mechanical strength.

EPE: EVA and POE melt-processed co-extrusion film.

Transparent film: Transparent film comes in two varieties: high-transparency and UV cut-off. The high-transparency type can pass through full-band sunlight to maximize solar energy conversion efficiency. The UV cut-off type absorbs ultraviolet rays, which can effectively improve the aging of materials caused by UV rays.

White film: a non-woven composite structure and a pre-crosslinked white film that is primarily colored with titanium dioxide. The white film with a non-woven composite structure has a good cushioning effect, anti-spill glue effect, and zero depth reflection, which improves power gain.

By adjusting the initial degree of crosslinking, the pre-crosslinked white film can control the whitening, wrinkling, and reflectivity of overflowing glue.

Single-layer structure adhesive film: refers to pure EVA, POE, or PVB adhesive film.

Multi-layer composite structure adhesive film:​ The term "multi-layer composite structure adhesive film" refers to a white film and EPE co-extruded adhesive film made of EVA, POE, and non-woven fabric.

Frosted film: anti-sticking and non-slip frosted film on the front and back sides.

Prism-shaped film: The steel roller's surface is a film with regular prismatic patterns that is anti-sticking and non-slip, and is suitable for high-weight film.

Casting film: The film is formed and processed by casting. Currently, the Solar Panel encapsulation film is primarily processed and formed through casting. The cast film is soft and fluid, with little internal stress and shrinkage.

Calendered film: a film created through the process of calendering. Calendered film has a high mechanical strength, hardness, internal stress, and flatness.

Thermosetting adhesive film: A network structure is formed through a chemical cross-linking reaction at a specific temperature and time to produce an adhesive film with mechanical strength, bonding and sealing effect. EVA is a thermosetting film, whereas POE comes in two varieties: thermosetting and thermoplastic. The thermosetting adhesive film is primarily intended for encapsulating traditional crystalline silicon Solar Panel modules.

Thermoplastic film: A hot-melt, non-chemically cross-linked film with no added peroxides. It has the properties of recyclable use and repeated processing. PVB is a thermoplastic film that is primarily used in BIPV (Building Integrated Solar Panel) modules. Thermoplastic POE is primarily used in thin-film solar panel modules.

For which different types of solar panels are different Encapsulation suitable?

Ordinary crystalline silicon modules are frequently encapsulated with EVA film. The front panel of single-glass modules is made of high-transmittance EVA film, while the back panel is made of UV-cut EVA film.

PID effect is produced by enriching the anti-reflection layer.
